Before You Head Out

The Arkansas River through Browns Canyon runs best in May and June during snowmelt. For 14ers, the prime window is July and August (start early — afternoon thunderstorms are deadly). Mountain biking is excellent from June through October, with Monarch Crest peaking in fall color.
